The sleigh is standing in a snowy field. It is not built for passenger transport. The six passengers and the driver are sitting rather uncomfortably on the side panels, yet they are smiling as if enjoying the experience. The passengers – a lady, two gentlemen, an officer and a boy – are elegantly dressed in contrast to the driver and his aide squatting next to the sleigh, who are wearing village garb combined with a fur cap (šubara). Behind the sleigh, a soldier is smiling into the camera.</dc:description><dc:description>The photograph appeared in the newspaper Vreme on 11 February 1929 as part of a report on the cold snap in Europe. The Danube River froze over with air temperatures at minus 23 degrees and below. The thick layer of ice was an opportunity for some middle-class urbanites to take a ride from Belgrade to Pančevo. Peasant men offered sleigh rides in the winter.</dc:description><dc:subject>Animal Transportation</dc:subject><dc:subject>Leisure Time Activities</dc:subject><dc:subject>Climate</dc:subject><dc:subject>Rest Days and Holidays</dc:subject><dc:subject>Spectacles</dc:subject><dc:subject>Transportation</dc:subject><dc:source>Borba fotodokumentacija, Belgrade, Borba0129</dc:source><dc:publisher>Middle Eastern Studies, University of Basel</dc:publisher><dc:contributor>Milanka Matić</dc:contributor><dc:contributor>Nataša Mišković</dc:contributor><dc:contributor>Swiss National Science Foundation</dc:contributor><dc:relation>A Visual Approach to Explore Everyday Life in Turkish and Yugoslav Cities, 1920s and 1930s</dc:relation><dc:rights>All rights reserved.</dc:rights><dc:type>DigitalObject</dc:type><dc:identifier>http://hdl.handle.net/11471/1010.3.4065</dc:identifier><dcterms:isPartOf>http://gams.uni-graz.at/vase</dcterms:isPartOf><dcterms:spatial>Serbia</dcterms:spatial><dcterms:temporal>1929</dcterms:temporal><europeana:object>http://gams.uni-graz.at/o:siba.4065/IMAGE.1</europeana:object><europeana:provider>EuropeanaLocal Austria</europeana:provider><europeana:type>IMAGE</europeana:type><europeana:rights>http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/</europeana:rights><europeana:dataProvider>University of Graz</europeana:dataProvider><europeana:isShownAt>http://gams.uni-graz.at/o:siba.4065</europeana:isShownAt></europeana:record> </metadata>
