Beschreibung:Men are seated at tables on a stage. Two little girls are standing on footstools in front of large lottery boxes, awaiting directions. In the auditorium, a mainly male audience is anticipating the draw. The spectators hold sheets in their hands. Some sheets are folded over the back of the seats.
Beschreibung:The event is the Aviators’ New Year Lottery (Yılbaşı Tayyare Piyangosu), which in the 1930s took place in the conference room of Darülfünun. The exact year is hard to establish, but Cumhuriyet reported on the event with a picture on 1 January of every year throughout the decade. The lottery of the Turkish Aviators’ Society (Türk Tayyare Cemiyeti) was established in 1926.
