Beschreibung:A cloud of smoke is spreading from a smoke bomb on the square in front of Yeni cami. In the foreground, a fire hose is being dragged across the square. In the background, uniformed men are walking from the mosque towards the smoke.
Beschreibung:The photograph was shot in the context of two articles that appeared in Cumhuriyet in August 1939 reporting on military defence operations against air raids and chemical weapons attacks. Cumhuriyet covered the military exercise in great detail, announcing which action was to take place in which part of town and at what time.
