Beschreibung:Two officials in uniform and gas masks are crossing a road and tramway tracks on a motorcycle with sidecar. A few metres behind them, a tram is either waiting or approaching. Pedestrians on the sidewalk and people behind the counter of a coffee bar on the street corner are watching the scene.
Beschreibung:The photograph was taken in the context of two articles that appeared in Cumhuriyet in August 1939 reporting on military defence operations against air raids and chemical weapons attacks. Cumhuriyet covered the military exercise in great detail, announcing which action was to take in which part of town and at what time.
