Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts im Rahmen der Reichsreform eingerichteten Reichshofrates in Wien. Der Reichshofrat, der wegen seiner Legitimations und Organisationsnähe zum Kaiser nicht so formell wie das Reichskammergericht agieren mußte und deshalb flexibler und effizienter war, hatte nicht nur Aufgaben der Höchstgerichtsbarkeit inne. Der übliche Tagungsort war die Reichshofratsstube in der Wiener Hofburg, soferne der Kaiser nicht unterwegs war.
