                    <dc:description>Designed in 1902, this was the first formally designed Racecourse in Ireland. It began to decline in the 1960s and eventually closed in 1982. 
The interior now accommodates a bar, restaurant and discotheque, which operate throughout the year, making the complex economically viable.  A reconstruction program to provide the existing racecourse with modern facilities appropriate while preserving its unique character. Conservation of existing buildings, modification where re-use was impossible, removal of ad-hoc additions. Creation of a new concentrated focal area between the existing stands and a layout to observe the full preparation of the course. The overall design preserved the existing character while providing an attractive racing/ social environment for race-goers. </dc:description>
