The building is one of the sites of the Bauhaus school of architecture in Weimar: later on, Dessau became a Bauhaus site as well). The building has been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 and became, as such, the subject of a renovation for future use as a School of architecture. The restoration works comprised such things as the improving of fire safety, thermal and technical installations while retaining the original structure as far as possible.
