<dc:description>In May of 1861, a devastating fire destroyed the entire center of the city of Glarus including the medieval Parish Church. From 1863-1866, a new twintowered basilica was constructed based on the architectural plans of Zürich's Ferdinand Stadler - a monumental landmark of the newly reconstructed town. In 1928, Karl Moser removed the stuccowork from the interior of the church and expanded the organ balistrade. In 1940 the State Church was damaged by fire, but returned to its original architectural form. The total restoration from 1995-1999 restored, in every respect, the former character of the facade and the interior decorative paintings. Today, the State Church of Glarus is once again a magnificent monument of the Historismus period in Switzerland.</dc:description>
